ON THEIR OWNER’S BIRTHDAY

The slaves who toil in the fields on his estate are allowed half a day not working on their owner’s birthday.  We see them here celebrating in the totally different environment of the river, where they are “playing” - a real change from the arid fields where they normally toil.
