OFFICE LIFE
We usually think of slaves as working in the fields, on the plantations, or in factories, mines and quarries.  But just as for free men, the majority of work is now to be found in office complexes throughout the land.
Major corporations have of course discovered that a large part of their cost base is composed of salary and welfare costs, so it’s natural that over time they have bought slaves to replace free men in office tasks.  Not only do they cost a whole lot less as there are no salaries, pensions or medical expenses, but the whole cost base can be lower:  no need for as much air-conditioning in the hot months,  no need for uniforms, and it’s easy to keep the work rate up and the quality consistently good - you don’t need to wait for an annual appraisal to correct a failing employee, as a guard with a whip can take much more immediate action.
